I find the new direction very refreshing. Of course, I hope I'm not the only one.

When Assembly's rebirth was first put in motion and we discussed a new direction, there's movies and series I couldn't help thinking about:

The "Firefly" series: there are some elements in common. That's a good mix of good and bad and fun and serious. Nothing's all black or all white.

The "Ocean's" series: 11, 12 and 13 (I got the collector's box). That definitly puts me in that mood. I'm fond of this trilogy. It's not great cinema, it probably never won big prizes, but it's a little fetiche of mine because it's just so damn fun to watch  :D

What are yours?

Edit: It doesn't have to be a movie or such, it just happens that mine are.

I agree with Firefly being  wonderful inspiration. Not so much for the costuming and old-world style, but more for the characters, the world, the way the 'verse functions.

I like sci-fi, and many many years ago, I used to watch a few episodes of Babylon 5. I don't know which season it was, and it wasn't many I watched, but again, the interaction between the characters was very nice.

Third, I love Battlestar Galactica, and find inspiration in the series both for its characters, who range in many shades of grey, and for the sci-fi elements (the cylons, the ships, the weapons, the medical technical) and for the story.

Definately Firefly, yes.

I could get sappy and say my frands too. Because you guys, and ones that have come and gone done make this game for me.

Music is a *HUGE* inspiration for me too though.
Rage Against the Machine Is just full of rebelious spirit, puts me in a clanner state of mind every time :D That, some old school punk, and a touch of techo (in moderation) will get me thinking and acting like Kotts :)
Southeren favorites: AC/DC, Rob Zombie, ect are great for that too. Dispite the fast talk, and techno-sexual nature, Kotts is a Hick and a Good 'ol Boy.

Damn me, I left out Babylon 5, how could I. I used to have several seasons on tape but the cassettes are old...  (One of these days...  I'll get the DVD's.)

John Sheridan and Delenn were a little too "good" but it was serving the storyling well. However, there are several characters I could get inspired from, in that series, for the direction I'm giving to Cher.

Michael Garibaldi, namely...  8-)

Edit:
Okay, I wish I could play out half the quick wit of Susan Ivanova, but let's face it, the author had plenty of time to think about her lines, which I don't have in live RP... But oh would that be fun...

Well, inspiration for me when making characters can often be anime, games or movies. For Demongun it was as short-lived anime called Ultimate Final Fantasy (Final Fantasy Ultimate?) where this mysterious person had a pistol which fired of various effects depending on his bullets.. His name varied from 'Demongun' to 'Blackwind'. ;)

For Christopher, only his bot(s) came from something else. I think Chris' story was improvised during an RP session with Tussa but I could've been inpsired by something, but I don't remember.
Chozo's name came from the Metroid game series. http://metroid.wikia.com/wiki/Chozo
Sigma(tism)'s name and 'evilness' was inspired by Sigma from the Mega Man X series. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigma_(Mega_Man_X)

Mirkle was just someone I named randomly, but someone asked me one day if his name was based on "Myrkul", and although it wasn't, it's an interesting thought. "Myrkul was the fictional Lord of the Dead in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting based upon the Dungeons & Dragons universe."

Jawalooc also wasn't based on anyone, though his name comes from Locust and the Star Wars Jawa's (I had a poster, needed a name). In time, Jawa evolved from being a 'blind' man, into later a....______ To be revealed :D

I often seek inspiration from music aswell, sometimes I run weird music videos in my head based on games I play when talking a walk with my zen. O.o
